Introduction to the Book
The collection of letters, diaries and photographs tells its own story of spiritual value and historical importance. The story describes the life and service of a godly man devoted to China. Furthermore, it vividly reflects social change and religious life in rural northern China more than one hundred years ago.
The beloved Physician Arthur Peill is a man whom no one in Tsang Chou would not give anything he might ask for. As a medical missionary, he wholeheartedly dedicated himself to saving and healing souls and curing the bodies of the Chinese. His humility, great heart of love, infectious goodness, and professional devotion deeply impacted local inhabitants. His is a name to conjure with in spite of his short life.
From all the correspondence collected and edited by his father, readers can reveal the strength of his influence, the source of his goodness, and the attractive power of his love in the face of challenges and dangerous settings of that age.
Recommended reading for those seeking to discover and follow the path of the cross and anyone engaging in the search for meaning and contentment in today’s post-Christian and post-modern society.
